Basil smith is a 6'1 midfielder/ forward whose excellent knowledge of the game combined with his skills and physical attributes make him the complete player, one who is always in control. His size, speed, power and endurance matched with his high soccer IQ, allow him to anticipate the game and react with smart plays. He has an extraordinary ability to make challenging decisions look effortless in tight situations as they are executed at a high speed of play. His kicks are powerful and accurate, and his ball handling is performed with such exceptional control that it makes him a very tough competitor. Basil has been playing for Markham Soccer Club since 2012, prior to this current team he played for both Glen Shields and North Scarborough. He has a number of diverse athletic honors for which he plays soccer, runs track and swims competitively, while also maintaining a 3.7 GPA. Some of his achievements include being his High School's Rookie Athlete of the Year as well as being the Junior MVP for both Soccer and Track and Field in 2010-2011. Then in 2011-2012 he was the Junior Athlete of the Year, MVP for Soccer and MVP of the Swim team. Basil is a leader by example as he practises as hard as he plays and follows a strict training regimen while maintaining a high level of fitness. He has a rare combination of knowledge, skills and attributes that complement each other and help to make him an excellent soccer player.
