Jean-Philippe Martin is a disciplined, dedicated and hard working young athlete. His positive personality and social skills make him a team leader among his teammates. He is extremely competitive and relentless towards achieving his goals. Jean-Philippe has always been passionate about baseball and has a natural sense and understanding of game. JP is self-motivated and able to recognize areas of his game that requires extra work and improvement. He welcomes criticism and positive insights to improving his position as a catcher and a player. He is a hard worker. Ever since little league, JP has had the benefit of being coached by Dominic Dinelle, ex MLB player and scout, from whom he has always received top-notch training, supervision and guidance. In recent years, JP has played in tournaments in France and the Dominican Republic under the Dominic Dinelle Baseball program. JP has also received private training sessions from several professionals with baseball backgrounds like Jean-Luc Blaquiere (New-York Mets), Pierre Arsenault (Florida Marlins), Russell Martin (Pittsburgh Pirates) and Issael Gonzales (St-Louis Cards). During the summer of 2014, at 17 years old, JP played 18U level (Midget AAA) as a catcher, 3rd base and outfielder. He finished his season with a batting average of .250 with an OBP of .571. His team finished first in the Mizuno Cup Challenge, the biggest baseball gathering in Quebec, Canada. They also won the series. JP takes part in a year-round baseball program that includes his summer season, winter development program, and spring training. He stays in great physical shape by regularly following a physical training program with proper nutrition. Academically, JP achieved an average of 80% throughout his grade 11 year.
